It’s never too early to sleep When you’re livin’ in a dream The age of fear has paid us back And now we have to lie in between As you come to the end of the road The love you made, you had to steal And it all comes rainin down on you As you nod behind the wheel So let it roll, roll, roll Let it ride into the sky Don’t stop now…we’ve come too far Now it’s do or die Let it blow, blow, blow While the wind is at our back Straight ahead…until we’re dead There ain’t no looking back The path to your heart has been heavy But it’s got a strong foundation All roads can lead me back to you If there is no hesitation Don’t tell me that I didn’t know When I said, what might have been Remember, the time, we danced ‘til dawn And believed that we were twins And that’s the night it all came down From the rafters…beneath the bones All piled up, through all the years And ended up in stone It’s never too early to die You gonna have to find out for yourself Every moment’s a rear-view glance at dreams Dreams that you left on the shelf Jump real high…steady as she goes… I’m just a lucky so & so Jump real high…steady as she goes… I’m just a lucky so & so Jump real high…steady as she goes… I’m just a lucky (music cuts out) so & so

All my life, ya, I been told That I would surely fail, ‘Cause I been steppin’ to slow I don’t, take no, detour And no short cut I take the long road (you hear me?) I take the long road Nobody gave me nothin’, and that’s a fact I had to pull myself out of a ditch, with a knife in my back I don’t, owe Anybody, no not at all I take the long road I take the long road If you are down and dirty baby, don’t give up You got to believe, you got to believe that you got something, that nobody else has got The deal, that‘s been given to you Ya don’t have to accept it, baby You can pick and choose Just go, slow And steady, Lord don’t ya know Take the long Road Take the Long Road If you are down and dirty baby, don’t give up Just believe, you got to believe you got something That nobody else has got Take the long road We gonna move it y’all I don’t care what anybody say (You can talk all you want) I learned a long time ago When things get in my way I don’t take no detour And and no short cut (don’t need it) I just keep on movin’ baby I just keep on moving down the line Oh ya I said I’m gonna take the long road Ya ain’t gonna stop me now And when they go low And they will, they will go low I go high I go high

ALLIGATOR BAPTISM Woke up this morning with a clearer head Tryin’ to find a better sense of time With respect to my true love layin’ in bed Between desire & deceit, I walk the line Tired of being lonely & naked Tired of livin’ a life in despair Like a baptizing alligator salesman Reborn from the ruins of a night on the tear A little more soul & a lot less jive What’s gonna stop me from diggin’ in too deep Who’s to say what it takes to survive Let the muse play the song for your soul to keep See the guy standin’ in the dream corner Dealin’ a losin’ hand at Solitaire Circlin’ the drain…hidin’ from his pain Tangled in the web of truth or dare Bridge: Soul of a man…a dreamer in disguise A perfect plan conceived in your own eyes Baptism of fire on the river of tears To wash away the pain and rise above your fears You kept it inside…went along for the ride I gotcha covered…now, step aside Redemption waits on a dead-end street Where the alligator salesman, still walks the beat

The River 04:15
Well I fell into a river Strong arms, carried me away I could not get, back The river was pounding, around me I looked up, I saw the same tree I had clasped, an hour ago And then I realized, I was in the same place The river would not let me go Lord it was me and that river Comin to save me Lord I thought, I thought I would surely die, ya I said lord, please forgive me And I raised my hand, way up high I let the current, just take me To the other side, to the other side Only a fool would think a river Would let you sink, like a bag of stones But I believe, love comes that way Even when you’d rather, be alone Lord it was me and that river Comin to save me Lord I thought, I thought I would surely die, ya Well you came and your reached your hand out Said here I am, take a hold of me I won’t let you, sink in this ol’ river I’m comin’ after you, now you take hold of me Well I heard, the black bird cry And the gliding the hawk, with its evil eye But I grabbed your hand, like life itself Like I could not die, like I could not die Lord it was me and that river Comin to save me Lord I thought, I thought I would surely die, ya Ooo Woh

Round & round…what gets torn down (Eventually) has got to come back up But since you’re gone, I can’t go on I feel like I’ve lost my lovin’ cup Empty houses burnt to hell From furied fits of rhyme Put the pedal to the metal Just leave it all behind It’s one last gasp…forget the past ‘Cause now I’m finally free Gonna get my rear back in gear And get to where I long to be Wheel & deal, but keep it real That’s all they’re ever gonna ask of you The voice you hear without fear Do just what you know you got to do Snakes may scare…it’s truth or dare Anyone can tell you so We all must crawl before we run You can’t run from what you know What’s it to you, brother man You got nothing else to lose (You can) only do the best you can The supernatural blues Show & go…then you’ll know It’s time to take your story to the stage Shake & bake…that’s all it takes These blues will lead you to a higher place Don’t criticize…just realize Sometimes we play the fool You may be down, but you’ll rebound If you don’t lose your cool Allow your brain to entertain Then you can pick & choose There’s many ways along the path To supernatural blues

Now we really done it baby, looks like it’s you and me Headin’ down the highway, I just wanna be free Gonna be sick, gonna get hit I see our destination, but we ain’t there yet Biker bars, diamond stores Old men in uniforms Palm trees, desert fields Lost in a rain storm Playin’ in cages, ghetto stages Talkin’ in our face, go ahead and cheat us Make a right turn (Chorus) Make a right turn I swear by God, I ain’t gonna get it Not one more hour, not one more minute Make a right turn, and let me out! Everybody’s got a game, ain’t it a cryin’ shame Money’s all that matters, it’s like a runaway train I’m a real a misfit, ain’t in no clique Can’t play here, cause ya ain’t payed yet Got your name, got your number Got it all, ya got to stop and wonder How they got your life, got your dreams Took it away, while you were staring at a screen Make a right turn (Chorus) Make a right turn I swear by God, I ain’t gonna get it Not one more hour, not one more minute Make a right turn, and let me out! DJ’s, backbeats 5150 sittin’ in the back seat, I can’t take it any more Copycat trap, let’s go back No imagination, ya get what you deserve Got your name, got your number Got it all, ya got to stop and wonder How they got your life, got your dreams Took it away, while you were staring at a screen Make a right turn (Chorus) Make a right turn I swear by God, I ain’t gonna get it Not one more hour, not one more minute Make a right turn, and let me out! Jussa make a right turn (Let me out!) Jussa make a right turn (Let me out!) Jussa make a right turn (I can’t take it any more!) Jussa make a right turn (Give me a cigarette!) Jussa make a right turn Jussa make a right turn And Let me out!

Don’t abuse this feeling Bring it out into the street I can hear that bulldog barkin’ And he’s nippin’ at my feet…bring it on out Don’t know where I’m goin’ Don’t know what I’m gonna do Think I’ll hold onto this feelin’ ‘Til I find someone like you…to bring it on out Such a mean ol’ world, baby When you’re livin’ life all alone Sometimes you think you’ve seen it all Until it chills you to the bone There’s way too many people Livin’ & Dyin’ on their feet I’m gonna take this balled-up feeling Bring it out into the street It doesn’t really matter Where you been or what you’ve done Don’t you know you got to taste the rain Before you can see the sun…bring it on out No need for you to think about it It’s the price you’ve got to pay Sometimes you need a little angel To help you find a way…to bring it on out It’s a restless hungry feeling That you just don’t want to know When a bulldog starts to clampin’ (down) He ain’t never gonna let go Don’tcha show no fear…don’t hesitate He’s just tellin’ you to keep movin’ on The darkest hour of the night Is always right before the dawn So bring it on out Last verse

Last Ride 05:12
Can’t quit the noise, ringing in my head Here come a big stick, swinging like lead And the wildfires breach, the dead the dead dry line And the wind is hammering at me, all the time I am a witness, this is the storm Give me a rope, tie the lariat to the horn It’s a ride, it’s a ride It’s a ride, it’s a ride Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives Black jack king, on the thirty second floor He got a bump stock rifle, and 22 more Brought ‘em up in a suitcase, one by one Now it’s raining down bullets, on Highway 91 Blood and grit, grease and spit It’s an American night, on the Las Vegas strip It’s a ride, it’s a ride It’s a ride, it’s a ride Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives Black-clad gunman, walked into a church Fired on children, what can be worse He jumped in his car, still spraying lead Leaving 46 down, and 26 dead Driving about 95, on 539 A neighbor shot him, call it a suicide It’s a ride, it’s a ride It’s a ride, it’s a ride Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives An explosive September, brought a streak of good luck a spectacular end, ‘tll the hurricanes struck Now the earth shakes out, bigots liars and crooks Got us all tied up in a slip knot loop Blood and guts, grease and grime And 45 rides up from behind It’s a ride, it’s a ride It’s a ride, it’s a ride Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives Maybe the last ride, the last ride of our lives

Don’t take too much To remember what it’s like to feel so fine Don’t take too much…. For you to drown your troubles in a glass of wine Women got their evil ways Make you only wanna do wrong to yourself Make a man so crazed That he starts to worryin’ ‘bout his mental health But if you look for a while Start to walkin’ that country mile You’re gonna find there ain’t no way out Until you know what it’s all about Don’t Take Too Much To think the whole world is doin’ you wrong Don’t take too much To know that here & now is right where you belong Love is truth…(and the truth hurts, baby) Just like an old gospel song You got to know when you’ve had enough Like being in a steam room for too long When you step in quick sand And you feel like you’re going down slow The more you fight it, the more you sink down Just ride the waves and go with the flow Bridge: But it’s like a fish in troubled water Trying to swim his way up stream You just might have to go out on a limb (or two) If you want a find a way to hold on to your dream Solo Just a little light Just enough for you to make it shine And if it feels right You’ll know that you did it by your own design Shuckin’ and a jivin’ Ain’t gonna get you very far Why don’t you just dive in And learn to face the music from bar to bar

People are snapping, their fingers in my face Tyrin’ to get my attention, to see if I’m awake Oh it’s like I know, the very price of my own soul I wanted somebody to be my side, now I feel no pleasure Maybe it’s just my pride Oh I can’t see, what is in front of me Oh love is Blind Ya, love is blind Maybe someday I’ll leave it all behind Just leave it all behind The things I remember, a thousand-eyed stare Through the eye of the needle, and now no one is there Oh, I wish I was strong, surely I will not last long Oh Love is Blind I tell you love, love is blind Maybe someday I’ll leave it all behind Just leave it all behind Confusing money for virtue, accomplishment for luck Birth for talent, babe, just a diamond in the rough Oh what is the matter with me When everyone else can see Oh Love is Blind Love is blind Maybe someday I’ll leave it all behind Just leave it all behind I tell you love is blind I tell you love is blind I tell you love is blind I tell you love is …. blind.

about

Winner of "Best Independent Blues-Soul Artist" of 2019! Downbeat, Blues Music Magazine, Living Blues, American Blues Scene, Blues News Germany, Blues Matters and all agree that "Blind Spot" is an exceptional album. San Francisco’s finest male/female duet-fronted band, The Lucky Losers have created "a program of smart, likeable originals, that sport winning riffs. Refreshingly mixing rock, blues, R&B, soul, and a dash of country" (Downbeat). Cathy Lemons and Phil Berkowitz serve up a road warrior's tale on their third album, released on Dirty Cat Records, with a primal call to awareness in the eye of an irresistible storm. Traveling through a winding soundscape of modern blues, vintage R&B, and Americana, “Blind Spot” presents unvarnished testimony to the fragile and fleeting state of our world. Caught between hope and catastrophe, veteran blues vocalists, Cathy Lemons and Phil Berkowitz take a fearless ride into the unknown, witnessing the good, bad, and ugly of contemporary America through a fractured rear-view mirror.

Recorded at award-winning Greaseland Studios in San Jose, California, "Blind Spot" continues The Lucky Losers' long-standing relationship with acclaimed producer/engineer, Kid Andersen. Bringing back the vanishing art of vocal duets, the album is solely comprised of original material created by Cathy Lemons and Phil Berkowitz alongside their illustrious and multi-talented songwriting partner, Danny Caron (Charles Brown). “Blind Spot” features scintillating musical contributions from three-time Blues Music Award winner guitarist, Kid Andersen, IBMA Momentum Award winning violinist Annie Staninec (Rod Stewart), 2018 BMA nominated saxophonist, Nancy Wright, and Laura Chavez, listed as one of the “Top 50 Sensational Female Guitarists” by Guitar Player Magazine.

The album was on the Roots Music Report’s “Top 50 Blues Chart” for 26 weeks/ 4 weeks Top 10; and for 32 weeks on the “Contemporary Blues Chart” with 14 weeks in the “Top 10”! Nine of their original singles have charted in the Top 10!
